KENNEWICK POLICE DEPARTMENT MEDIA RELEASE - On 7/14/2014 KPD responded to a report of several males shooting at each other in the 1800 block of W 21st Ave. At least 2 dozen shots were fired.

Upon arriving witnesses identified two residences where suspects fled, 1812 W 21st Ave unit A and a neighboring apartment whose occupants have since been ruled out as suspects in this case.

KPD contained the residences and called out the occupants. Occupants exited from 1812 W 21st Ave unit A and said there were still several males inside of 1812 W 21st unit A that refused come out.

The Tri-City Regional SWAT team responded. Ultimately the remaining three came out of the apartment without further incident. The three have been confirmed as victims in this incident and 2 of the 3 are documented gang members. Information gathered at the scene confirms this shooting is gang related.

One 36 year old female, related to 1812 W 21st Ave unit A, sustained a minor injury to her head from what appears to be flying debris caused by a bullet striking a car window. She was taken to the hospital and has been released.

There were 2 children in the parked car with her who laid flat on the floor and did not sustain any injuries although the car was struck with bullets numerous times. Neighboring residences and were hit with bullets as multiple rounds were exchanged during this incident.

After the suspect vehicle fled, a vehicle with "victim" gang members fled the scene and crashed a couple of blocks away near 15th and Vancouver.
This incident is still under investigation and the suspects have not been identified.

There were numerous local residents who were good witnesses for investigators. All the individuals who were directly involved in this case have been uncooperative with police.

In addition, it is important to note that a crime of this magnitude requires multiple resources that required KPD detectives, traffic officers, Metro detectives, CAT detectives to be called out from home to assist with the investigation.
