BENTON COUNTY, Wash - A police interview of John Young was recorded just hours after the murder of a 17-year-old.

The body of Josh Snapp was found near the Horn Rapids ORV park in Richland last Fourth of July.

The videotaped interview was played for the jury. Accused killer John Young sat rocking in his chair as they watched him recant a story to police nearly one year ago.

Young was trying to convince police he was only a witness, not a suspect.

He said, "I think that you guys think that, that I shot him or something."

An officer asks, "Did you?"

Young replies, "No."

Young is also seen in this video of a mini-mart, taken the morning of the killing. He asks the clerk to call 911. He said he'd just witnessed a crime.

Deputies quickly arrive, and pretty soon both Young and his friend Josh Hunt are being interrogated.

Young tries to pin the murder on Hunt.

He said, "I didn't even pull that trigger. I stood there and watched as he twitched and kept shooting him in the head."

At one point in the tape, the officer leaves Young alone. All the while, they're watching his body language from another room. When the officer returned, Young learned he was being arrested for murder.

The officer said, "Let me read you your rights here. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law."

Young is still trying to maintain his role as a witness, not a killer. Josh Hunt was already convicted of murder and is serving 23 years. Prosecutors believe both young men had an equal hand in the death, taking turns shooting their friend.

Detective Athena Clark said, "You know, I know you well enough to know you're not telling the whole truth. By watching you through the window there and my knowing you, I know that you are not telling the truth."

As Young tries to downplay his role, the state could call his friend to testify against him, hoping to put away two people for a murder in the desert last year.
